The 2026 Ballon d’Or race features three Barcelona representatives after the official list of nominees was confirmed.

According to an official Ballon d’Or site, the three players honored on the 30-man shortlist are 19-year-old attacking phenom Lamine Yamal, 19-year-old defensive anchor Pau Cubarsí, and blockbuster summer midfield signing Rodri.
Lamine Yamal enters the award race as one of the definitive frontrunners after becoming the first player in football history to earn three Ballon d’Or nominations before turning 20 years old.
Having finished eighth in 2024 and second in 2025, the teenage winger enters the 2026 vote on the back of a 42-goal-contribution campaign for Barcelona and a starring role in Spain’s World Cup victory.
Meanwhile, Pau Cubarsí’s inclusion marks his maiden appearance on the main Ballon d’Or shortlist, rewarding a year in which he started 48 matches for Barcelona and played every single minute of Spain’s defensive run to World Cup glory.
Both Cubarsí and Lamine Yamal are also pulling double duty after earning places on the 10-player Kopa Trophy shortlist.
Rounding out Barcelona’s representation is Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner and World Cup Golden Ball recipient, whose arrival at Spotify Camp Nou has immediately transformed Flick’s central midfield setup.
While the nominations celebrate Barcelona’s elite core, the announcement also stirred debate due to notable omissions, with last year’s top-five finishers Raphinha, Pedri, and Dani Olmo failing to make the final cut.
Nonetheless, boasting 10% of the world’s top 30 player pool underlines Barcelona’s tactical dominance under Flick. The ultimate winner will be crowned at the annual Ballon d’Or gala in Paris on October 26.
