The 2026 Golden Boy finalists are officially unveiled, spotlighting 25 under-21 stars vying for Europe’s top youth football honor.
The annual accolade, which recognizes exceptional performance over the calendar year, features a commanding presence from Spanish football.
Unsurprisingly, FC Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy continues its global dominance in talent development, securing multiple representative spots on the official final ballot.
The three Barcelona players officially revealed on the 2026 Golden Boy final shortlist are defensive star Pau Cubarsí, midfielder Marc Bernal, and academy breakout Xavi Espart.
Cubarsí enters the final voting stretch as the headline favorite to win the award outright following a remarkable year anchored by his supreme defensive composure for club and country.
Alongside him, Bernal and Espart earned their positions among Europe’s top 25 young talents after executing mature, high-impact performances during their integration into Hansi Flick’s primary squad.
Barcelona’s heavy representation on the 25-man shortlist reinforces the club’s ongoing reliance on homegrown talent to drive their competitive project.
La Liga accounts for six total nominees on the ballot, with Real Madrid’s Yan Diomande and Endrick alongside Real Sociedad’s Jon Martín joining the Catalan trio.
Should Cubarsí hold his frontrunner position through November’s final voting round, he will become the fifth player in Barcelona’s history to claim the Golden Boy trophy, following Lionel Messi (2005), Pedri (2021), Gavi (2022), and Lamine Yamal (2024).
With the final 25-man list officially locked, a jury of prominent sports journalists across Europe will cast their final votes ahead of December’s gala presentation in Turin.
Barcelona supporters and executives will be watching intently, confident that La Masia’s finest will once again stand at the peak of European youth football.
