2 high-performing Barcelona players have secured official nominations for the 2026 Men’s Young Talent of the Year award.
FC Barcelona’s commitment to developing world-class footballing talent through La Masia has once again received official global recognition as the individual award season kicks off.
Following a sensational campaign under Hansi Flick that showcased the club’s youthful core across both domestic and European competitions, France Football has formally published its 10-player shortlist for the prestigious Kopa Trophy.
According to the official Ballon d’Or site, the two La Masia academy graduates included on the official shortlist are 19-year-old attacking phenom Lamine Yamal and 19-year-old defensive prodigy Pau Cubarsí.
The joint nomination marks a historic milestone for both teenagers, who have firmly established themselves as indispensable structural pillars for both FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
Yamal enters the award race as a strong favorite to achieve an unprecedented hat-trick of victories, having previously won the honor in both 2024 and 2025.
His nomination comes on the heels of a dominant 2025/26 campaign in which he registered 24 goals and 18 assists across 45 matches for the club before helping lead Spain to World Cup glory.
Meanwhile, Pau Cubarsí’s inclusion underscores his remarkable transformation from an academy prospect into one of Europe’s most accomplished central defenders.
The 19-year-old anchored Barcelona’s backline with supreme composure throughout last season, making 48 official appearances across all competitive competitions while helping secure the La Liga title.
Cubarsí further elevated his global status during Spain’s victorious World Cup run in North America, playing every single minute of the tournament while conceding just a single goal.
They face competition on the 10-player list from international peers including Warren Zaïre-Emery, Yan Diomandé, Lennart Karl, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Ibrahim Maza, Kerim Alajbegović, Éli Junior Kroupi, and Johan Manzambi.
The final winner will be officially crowned during the 2026 Ballon d’Or gala in Paris on October 26.
