FC Barcelona came out slight winners in their Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk at the Estadi Olympic Lluis Companys on Wednesday. A match which was defined once more by La Masia breed. As one of its graduates Fermin Lopez stole the show. The 20 years old put in a Man of the match performance, hitting the woodwork twice whilst scoring and assisting a goal each.
Xavi whose squad list was made up of only 12 first team players due to an injury crisis going on at the club was looking for an inspirational performance from one of his outfield player. He was handed a Messiah in the shape of Fermin Lopez who was sensational on the night.
In a match of two halves which saw Barcelona dominate the first and allowing the opponent grow into the game in the second, resulted in the game ending by a single goal difference in favor of the host, as the Catalan side ran out 2-1 winners on the night. A fierce match as anticipated, saw the likes of Joao Felix and Ferran Torres brought down with injury concerns which led to the formerʼs substitution in the 74th minute.
With the win on Wednesday, Barcelona are just one point away in their next match from securing qualification into the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League. A stage which they have failed to reach in their previous two campaign in the competition.
