It was the most synonymous El Clásico of the season, as Barcelona and Real Madrid contested Copa del Rey silverware in a spectacular final that ended with the Catalans victorious.
The match began with controversy as Real Madrid had appealed to change the referee before the match, but Barcelona found the spark first, with Pedri scoring before half-time.
While the Catalans had the better chances, they could not push the advantage and let Madrid come into the game after the half time break.
Kylian Mbappe’s excellent free-kick and Aurélien Tchouaméni’s header turned the game upside down for Madrid.
With exciting final match heroics from Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres, the teams entered the Extra Time period, after a denied last-time penalty request from the Madrid side.
Jules Koundé capped off a huge attacking display with a fierce strike off the cross bar of the net – thus ending all hope Madrid could stage a comeback.
With the trophy now for Barcelona, the side will look to pitch this display into future matches.
Here are the Barcelona player ratings:
Wojciech Szczęsny (8.5) – Not really been challenged, but made a decisive double save in the second half. Plus, got away with a slight penalty scare after bumping into Vinícius Jr.
Gerard Martín (7) – Solid against Rodrygo, but not too much attacking contributions.
Iñigo Martínez (8.5) – Very nearly gave away a penalty, but aside from that, well organised and distributed the ball well. Organized the offside trap well.
Pau Cubarsí (9) – Made a really important interception leading to Pedri’s goal, and kept his defensive discipline.
Jules Koundé (8.5) – Kept Vinícius Jr. very quiet, then scored the absolute winner with a glorious long-range shot.
Frenkie de Jong (7.5) – Looked comfortable in central midfield, but gave away the free-kick that led to Mbappé’s equaliser.
Pedri (7.5) – Scored a great opening goal but looked a little sloppy in possession occasionally.
Dani Olmo (7) – Found it difficult to make an impact as he made his first Clásico start. His normal spark was absent.
Lamine Yamal (8.5) – Didn’t see much of the game early on, but had two excellent assists, including a lovely lob for Torres’ equaliser.
Raphinha (5) – Invisible for large parts, missed the biggest chances of the game and had a controversial late penalty overturned.
Ferran Torres (7.5) – Worked tirelessly off the ball and finished off his goal well but just doesn’t have the presence of Lewandowski.
