Barcelona will be left frustrated at not being able to gain an advantage on their own patch in a Champions League semifinal that had all the excitement of Europe’s premier competition.

This was Barcelona’s first semifinal since their epic collapse against Liverpool and they came into it as favorites against an Inter side that had been unconvincing under Simone Inzaghi’s management.

Inzaghi’s side, however, proved to be opponents not to be underestimated.

The visitors stunned the crowd in Montjuic by scoring in the first minute, before they were two goals up almost immediately.

Amid the wave of Inter goals and attacks, a pick from teenage star Lamine Yamal and an assured finish by Ferran Torres brought Barcelona back into the game just before half-time.

Inter’s set piece goals were looking a bit too easy. However, Raphinha’s blistering long-range effort has left the tie delicately poised ahead of the second-leg in Milan.

This thrilling match provided plenty of food for thought for Hansi Flick’s side ahead of the second leg in Milan.

Barcelona showed they can attack at will but can also be exposed defensively, so there will be plenty for them to think about ahead of the finale of this semifinal tie.

Here are 5 things we learned from the 3-3 Draw vs. Inter Milan

1. Lamine Yamal Is Ready to Lead the Attack

At just 17 years old, Yamal displayed the maturity and confidence of an experienced player against Inter, scoring an incredible solo goal at the end, and always being a threat to Inter’s backline.

His willingness to step up in a critical moment shows he is already a major part of Barça’s present and future.

2. Defensive Issues Still Exist
Allowing three goals in a home match- including one in the opening minute- revealed Barça’s defensive weaknesses.

The high line was exposed by Inter’s speed consistently throughout the first half, and defending set pieces poorly will not win any matches.

To improve their chances of progression in the tie, they must be much more defensively sound in the second leg.

3. Pedri is the Midfield Conductor Barça Needs

Having a player like Pedri provided composure and creativity to break Inter’s high press and develop attacking plays.

His pre-assist for the goal by Raphinha showcased his incredible vision.

When he is on song, pulling the midfield strings, Barça look much more of a danger to teams.

4. Raphinha & Ferran Torres Can Perform in Big Games

Both players came up big when they had to—Raphinha scored a wonderful goal and a clever assist, while Torres displayed poacher’s instincts to score the equalizer.

Their contributions demonstrate that Barcelona’s attack does not solely rely on Yamal.

5. Tie is Still Very Much Open

Although not winning at home is disappointing, the 3-3 draw leaves the second leg in the balance.

Barcelona demonstrated resilience by equalizing twice, but their finishing needs to be better in Italy.

An away goal could be decisive, and controlling the midfield battle will be critical.
