FC Barcelona cruised to a convincing 3-0 victory over Mallorca, extending their strong form in the title race.
Robert Lewandowski broke the deadlock, slotting home from close range after a rebound, with Dani Olmo providing the assist.
Barcelona controlled the match throughout, enjoying heavy possession and generating far more chances.
Lamine Yamal doubled the lead in the second half to wrap up the victory.
Olmo shone brightly with two assists, while the backline delivered a clean sheet against a largely toothless Mallorca side.
Marc Bernal sealed the win with a cool, composed finish to make it 3-0.
The result was a composed, efficient performance that strengthened Barcelona’s position in the title race.
Here are the 5 things we learned:
1. Too much possession doesn’t always equal goals
Barcelona dominated the ball as usual under Hansi Flick, but the final scoreline stayed narrow despite controlling the game.
Barcelona created chances, but converting dominance into a comfortable margin remains a work in progress — one clinical goal was enough, but it shouldn’t always come down to that against mid-table sides.
2. Lack of ruthlessness in front of the goal is still an issue
Multiple opportunities went begging, with Mallorca’s goalkeeper making several key saves.
The team needs to be far more clinical when on top — a 3-0 or 4-0 scoreline was there for the taking, but we settled for the minimum and risked letting Mallorca back into it.
3. Vulnerability to counterattacks and transitions needs addressing
Even though Mallorca didn’t score, there were worrying moments where quick breaks exposed our high defensive line.
Poor recovery runs and gaps in midfield left us open to counters — against faster or more direct teams, this could easily be punished. Better organization when possession is lost is essential.
4. Clean sheets are valuable, but they feel fragile
Barcelona kept another shutout, which is great for the table, but the defense looked stretched at times, especially when intensity dropped after the goal.
Mallorca threatened on a few occasions, showing that concentration must stay high for the full 90+ minutes.
5. Winning while not at our best is a sign of maturity
This wasn’t a vintage performance — we didn’t blow the opposition away — yet we still ground out three crucial points at home to protect the league lead.
That ability to win “ugly” when the level isn’t perfect is important in a long title race.
