Inaki Pena, a La Masia prodigy, has been the victim of a lack of minutes since his promotion to the first team after joining La Masia in 2012.
Rumored to be Ter Stegen’s replacement, the Spaniard goalie has been patient with the hope that his time will come as the veteran will turn 33 on April 30.
Unfortunately, Barcelona searched the market for a backup goalie, and Wojciech Szczęsny was signed. However, the Spaniard has not played since the start of 2025, with the Polish goalkeeper shining through.
With Marc’s pending return and the potential extension of Tek, Pena looks more like he will be out of the club this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain interested in signing the goalkeeper.
PSG Targets Pena for Next Season
According to Fichajes, PSG are interested in signing Inaki Pena. The Ligue 1 champions are looking for a goalkeeper ahead of the summer transfer window, as Gianluigi Donnarumma’s long-term future remains unknown. Barcelona’s backup goalkeeper has emerged as a target for Les Parisiens.
Notwithstanding being linked with Girona, PSG will look to overcome competition for the Barcelona goalkeeper’s signature in the summer transfer window if Gianluigi Donnarumma leaves Parc des Princes.
PSG’s long-term interest in Pena may materialize amid uncertainty about the Italian international’s future at the Ligue 1 side. The prospect of joining Les Parisiens should appeal to the 26-year-old Spaniard, especially if they give Barcelona’s backup goalkeeper first-choice status.
However, PSG may not be the only well-known team interested in signing Pena, with AS reporting that Galatasaray will also bid for the goalie in the summer transfer window. So it will be intriguing to see where the Spanish goalkeeper goes if he departs Barcelona during the summer transfer window.
