LA MASIA’S NEXT STAR

Over the years, La Masia has provided FC Barcelona with some of the best talents in the footballing world. In recent years players like Ansu Fati, Gavi, Balde, Fermin Lopez and now the 16 years old Lamine Yamal have all made it into the first team through the La Masia system.

Lamine and Fermin seem to be the most recent of the long list of La Masia starlet who has made it to the first team.

Fermin whose future at the club seemed uncertain at the beginning of last season, decided to go on loan to Deportivo Linares where he scored 12 goals throughout the course of the season.

Meanwhile Lamine Yamal at age 15 was showing so much promise which earned him his first minutes at the back end of last season against Real Betis.

WHO IS NEXT?

Due to the abundance of talents the La Masia academy has within its reach, its almost expected of them to produce “A WONDERKID” each year. Among those who have proven outstanding within the youth setup are;

Mikayil Faye a Senegalese born, who was signed to Barca athletics this summer from NK Kustosija Zagreb has already begun to show promising signs at age 19. The young centre back who is also capable of playing at left back has already been partnered with Ronald Araujo during the pre-season training. His raw power and pace accompanied with his abilities to put in well timed tackles makes him a promising youngster to look forward too.

Pau Curbasi born on 22 January 2007 in Girona was signed into Barcelona youth system at the age of 11 in 2018. Pau strengths are his abilities to win aerial duel in both halves of the pitch. His abilities to play out of the back, which is fundamental to succeed as a Barcelona defender. Already likened to the Legend GERARD PIQUE, Pau prefers to stay on his feet rather than commit into tackles, using intelligent positioning and anticipation to win the ball back. Pau Curbasi who has found himself on the first team list in the early stages of the season, will be looking to impress when he does get his chance.

“Sergio Busquets heir” they call him. An outstanding starlet among all the talents La Masia has within it’s reach goes by the name Pau Prim. Born on 22 February 2007, Prim is only 17 and already familiarizing himself with the art of being a single pivot. His ability to remain calm and be composed under pressure is what has earned him comparison with the legend SERGIO BUSQUETS. His ability which earned him a first team debut under Xavi against ANDRES INIESTA Vissel Kobe is a promising sign which indicates Pau isn’t far off from making that leap into the first team.

With FC Barcelona going into the summer transfer window in search of a pivot. Will Pau Prim prove to be the answer whilst saving the club a load of money considering its poor financial situation? Xavi will be in pole position to make the decision primarily at the start of next season.
