Jordi Cruyff recently discussed Lamine Yamal, highlighting how former Barcelona coach Xavi identified the young player’s talent within “five minutes” of observing him train.
Yamal has swiftly become a key player for both his club and national team, meeting the high expectations set for him. Cruyff recalled,
“I remember when he first started training, after just five minutes, the coach at the time, Xavi, turned to me and said, ‘This boy is special.’
He is exceptional, evident to everyone, but we aim to nurture his talent without placing undue pressure on him.” “He is 17 years old, so let him enjoy the experience.”
Yamal made his debut in April 2023, despite Xavi’s initial hopes of including him sooner. Cruyff clarified that Xavi intended to grant the player a debut earlier, however, it was realized that the player did not possess a valid contract at the time.
“First, we emphasized the importance of securing the player for a long-term commitment before allowing them to participate.”
