Barcelona is seeking an advantage over Manchester City in the pursuit of 15-year-old Mexican talent Gilberto Mora by extending an invitation for him to train at their esteemed La Masia academy.
Mora has gained recognition in Mexican football with Club Tijuana, becoming the youngest player to both play and score in the club’s history, attracting Barcelona’s interest.
Other clubs like AC Milan, FC Porto, and Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly keeping an eye on Mora, with Crystal Palace and Tottenham from the Premier League potentially adding to the competition for City.
While City had been leading the chase for Mora, Barcelona is hopeful that the opportunity to train at La Masia, where renowned players like Lionel Messi, Andrés Iniesta, and Xavi Hernández honed their skills, will give them an edge.
Barcelona has a reputation for nurturing Mexican talent, with the likes of Giovani and Jonathan Dos Santos progressing through their ranks before achieving success elsewhere.
Due to his age, FIFA regulations mandate that Mora’s family must grant permission for him to visit La Masia, and a formal contract cannot be finalized until he reaches the age of 18 in January 2027.
