Marc-Andre Ter Stegen rupturing his patellar tendon last year has forced Barcelona to plan for the future when it comes to goalkeeper.

Inaki Pena was the German’s backup but instead of relying on the Spaniard, Deco and Hansi Flick decided to sign Wojciech Szczęsny.

The Polish goalkeeper has now become Flick’s undisputed number one and he could be in line for a new deal if reports are to be believed.

Despite Szczęsny impressing this campaign, Barcelona look set to reinforce their goalkeeping department next summer.

Barcelona target Espanyol’s Joan Garcia

Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili was said to be a long-term target for the Blaugrana, however, he has since joined Liverpool and is expected to be Alisson’s successor.

Due to missing out on the Georgian shot-stopper, Barca have now turned their attention to signing a direct rivals first choice keeper.

According to Ryan Taylor, via Managing Barca, Barcelona have made contact with the agents of Espanyol’s Joan Garcia to inform them about their interest in the goalkeeper.

Garcia was linked with Arsenal last summer and the Premier League side reportedly had two bids rejected.

Garcia has a release clause of €30miilion and with all the interest in the 23-year-old, the Catalonian side are not expected to settle for any less.

There were also reports that Espanyol do not want to sell to Barca as they see them as a rival but if Flick can guarantee that Garcia will be the club’s long-term starter then he could force a move.
