Many La Masia stars have broken into the first since Hansi Flick joined Barcelona last summer, but there has been one main standout.

Pau Cubarsi, who had to fill in due to injuries to Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen, has really impressed the German coach.

So much so that he now become Flick’s first-choice centre-back and has formed a formidable partnership with Inigo Martinez.

Unfortunately for Araujo, Cubarsi’s electric form has meant that he has not returned to the first team, despite signing a new long-term contract amid rumours he wanted to join Juventus in January.

Ronald Araujo praises Pau Cubarsi

Despite taking his starting spot, the 25-year-old Uruguayan has been full of praise for his Barcelona teammate.

In a recent interview, cited by Managing Barca, Araujo compared the 18-year-old defender to one of Barcelona’s greatest-ever defenders.

“Pau Cubarsí is very good and very intelligent. He reminds me a lot of Gerard Piqué. Pau is important for the club and for us.”

If Cubarsi can even have half of the career that Pique had at Barcelona then it will be a very successful career, to say the least.

Hopefully the 18-year-old can continue his great form and prove that these comparisons are more than justified.
