The current talking point in La Liga at the moment is about referees and recent controversial decisions that could affect the title race.

Many Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid fans feel aggrieved by decisions in their most recent games that have let Barcelona close the gap at the top of the table.

Jude Bellingham was sent off for profanity towards the referee and Atleti’s Pablo Barrios was sent off against Celta Vigo after 7 minutes, both decisions playing a big part in the two title hopefuls dropping points.

To add even more fuel to the fire, Barcelona’s Monday night game against Rayo Vallecano was littered with questionable decisions, most of which went in favour of the Blaugrana, according to opposition fans.

This weekend’s decisions have now called into question the quality of La Liga referees, with mainly Los Blancos players and staff members publicly criticising their decisions.

Lamine Yamal gives his thoughts on referees

Speaking in a recent interview, Managing Barca, La Masia graduate Lamine Yamal has come to the defence of Spanish referees.

“In the Copa del Rey, Madrid was first favoured by the referees and then against Osasuna they go against them. Every day will be like this.

“I think we teams like Madrid, Barça, Atleti can’t complain. The referees try to do the best they can. Games like Alavés and Leganés are not talked about so much and maybe there are more controversial actions.

“But the referees try to do the best they can. It’s a very difficult job because someone will always complain. We are very happy.”

These comments will most likely anger a couple of fanbases but every team will have decisions go for and against them but over time they balance out.

Obviously Alteti and Real fans feel angry now but when decisions go for them they will surely not be as critical of referees as they are currently.
