In recent weeks, Ronald Araújo’s future as a Barcelona player has been put into question numerous times.

It all started with him returning from injury and Hansi Flick deciding not to break up the partnership of Pau Cubarsí and Ińigo Martínez.

However, after the latter picked up an injury in the Spanish Super Cup final and was replaced by the Uruguayan, there was some confidence he might want to stay.

Unfortunately, despite Flick being keen to keep the 25-year-old, it was reported that Araújo still wanted to leave despite being guaranteed more game time.

Juventus have been leading the race the whole time, but other clubs like Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been watching the situation closely.

Another reason why a potential move away from Barça makes sense this January is because the centre-back’s contract is set to end in 2026, and with no signs that Araújo wants to extend, it means selling him this month would maximise his transfer value.

However, in a recent report from Fernando Polo, via FCB World on X, it has been claimed that Araujo’s agents were not sending renewal offers to the player, something that made him upset with the club because he thought they did not renew his deal.

More recently, Laporta apparently told Araujo to ‘be careful with what you have at home’, hinting that his agents are not doing what is best for the 25-year-old.

Finally, the very well-respected Fernando Polo gave his views on the situation, expressing that he feels like the Uruguayan defender would like to remain at Barcelona.

“I think Araujo really wants to stay, but he needs to make a mature move, and be free from the influence of his agents, who see the market move in their favour.

“Therefore, the player lacked information, which made him believe that the club was not interested in him.”
