Frenkie de Jong’s time at Barcelona looks set to come to an end next summer, especially with Hansi Flick barely using the Dutch international since he took over.

So far this campaign, the 27-year-old has only played 15 times, with a large majority of those appearances coming from the bench.

The main issue as to why Barca are struggling to offload De Jong is due to his wages and the inability of most clubs in the world being able to afford a player of his quality at that price.

Fortunately, the Dutch midfielder’s contract is set to end in 2026, however, the Blaugrana, as well as people in his home country, would like him to depart sooner rather than later.

In a recent interview with SPORT, former Chelsea and AC Milan star Ruud Gullit gave his thoughts on De Jong’s current situation.

“I hope he finds a solution. I hope he gets a club that suits him so that he can leave Barça. It’s time to look for something else.”

The former Netherlands midfielder also urged one club in particular to sign the 27-year-old midfielder.

“Which club would be perfect? Bayern. Bayern would be perfect for Frenkie. It would be fantastic for them.”

Finally, Gullit explained how he believes De Jong’s situation at Barcelona needs to change as soon as possible, potentially even moving to Saudi Arabia.

“I would like De Jong to play football again. He should not sit on the bench. He is 27 years old and in his best years. This situation must change now.

“There is a lot of noise. That is something normal in the world of soccer to talk about offers and more with a player who has no minutes.

“I think the Saudi clubs should also probe his incorporation because he is a great player.”
