This week, reports from Italy have been signalling that Barcelona’s club captain Ronald Araújo is the key target for Juventus this January transfer window.

As well as the Bianconeri, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal had also been linked with a move, however, the 25-year-old now looks set to play the remainder of the season in the Serie A.

Italian outlet La Repubblica has reported this morning that the two sides have came to an agreement that will see the Uruguayan defender join the Juve on a six-month loan.

The report also states the medical tests are booked for next week in Turin where he will also sign his contract at the club.

It is still unsure whether this loan move has any obligation or option to buy, however, with Araújo’s contract set to end in 2026, Barça could include one to maximise his value, especially if he has no intention of renewing.

Even though the Uruguayan was set to be a big part of Hansi Flick’s side this season, an injury he picked up before the season started threw a spanner into those plans.

Fortunately for Barcelona, the duo of Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez have been very reliable for the German coach this campaign.

For Juventus, this is going to be a crucial deal for them this January as they have been riddled with defensive injuries, most notably Gleison Bremer who tore his ACL earlier in the season.

If Araújo was not in Flick’s plans, getting a loan fee and his wages off the books makes sense, especially when you consider the current financial situation at Barça.
