Lamine Yamal entered this season with so much pressure on his shoulders after a fantastic breakthrough year where he helped Spain with the Euros as well as collecting many individual accolades.

Fortunately for Hansi Flick, the 17-year-old has continued his electric form, providing 10 assists and scoring five times in La Liga this campaign.

More recently, Yamal has been suffering from an ankle injury that has kept him out of the squad for a few games.

Thankfully the Spanish international seems to have recovered and is set to take part in tonight’s Super Cup semi-final versus Athletic Club.

Even though the La Masia graduate is still very young, fans are hoping that Barça will offer him a much-improved contract sooner rather than later, especially considering his current deal expires in 2026.

However, it looks like that deal is a lot closer than most imagined, with the 17-year-old confirming he ‘will renew’ his contract in a recent interview.

“I don’t know when (the contract will be signed), but I believe it’ll be soon,” Yamal told CNN.

“In the end, Barça is the club of my life. I hope to renew my contract with them and to be with them as long as possible.

“I want to play in the Spanish league. I want to play for Barça, and yes, I will renew my contract. I will.”

Yamal is one of the lowest earners in the Barcelona squad, with a reported weekly wage of €32k.

When he eventually does put pen to paper on his new contract, he will see his salary drastically increase, bringing it closer to the highest earners in the squad.
