At the moment, the position that has the most depth in Hansi Flick’s squad is without a doubt centre-back, so much so that Barcelona are willing to let a couple of defenders leave this January.

The return of Ronald Araujo has bolstered the defence even more and it is still not certain if the Uruguayan will be in Flick’s main team after impressive starts to the season from Iñigo Martínez and Pau Cubarsí.

Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen are two of the players who could leave Barça in the near future and both of them are not short of admirers.

Despite the acceptance that some will need to be sold, Flick will want to keep hold of his best and most reliable defenders.

A report from TBR’s Graeme Bailey in England has claimed that Chelsea have added two of Barcelona’s key defenders to their shortlist for a potential January transfer.

The Premier League side have set their eyes on Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo, but the article does say that Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is their preferred target.

Enzo Maresca’s side are known to splash the cash so if they do decide to test Barcelona’s resolve, it might be difficult for them to turn down tempting offers, especially during this time of financial unrest at the club.
