In September, news from CaughtOffside suggested that Chelsea, Tottenham, and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Viktor Gyökeres, a striker from Sporting Lisbon.

Tottenham is considered the frontrunner among these clubs to secure the Swedish forward. Chelsea, however, apparently sees Gyökeres as a backup option, as their main focus is on Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea may announce their decision on a bid in January or wait until summer. PSG is keeping a close eye on Gyökeres. Their strong connection to Sporting may provide them with an advantage during discussions, but the outcome of any agreement may depend on the transfer of either Gonçalo Ramos or Randal Kolo Muani.

Speculation surrounds Kolo Muani’s future, with suggestions that he may not stay in Paris for an extended period.

Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sports Germany reports that while Gyökeres has a €100 million release clause, Sporting may be open to negotiating a transfer fee around €60 million or €70 million if he departs next summer.

A recent report from Spain also suggests that Barcelona is monitoring Gyökeres as a potential suitor. The football forward from Sporting has a release clause of €80 million.

Other Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool are also interested.

Ruben Amorim becoming the new manager of Manchester United has led to speculation that he may want to reunite with some of his old Sporting players. Nonetheless, Amorim promptly rejected this speculation.

“Gyökeres costs €100 million (£83.7 million), and it’s quite challenging,” he stated during his inaugural press conference as United’s manager. “I will not be focusing on acquiring any players from Sporting in January.”

Gyökeres has had a remarkable season so far, scoring 20 goals and providing four assists in 16 matches in all competitions for Sporting.
