After the departure of former captain Sergio Busquets, the reigning La Liga champions have been on the market for a defensive midfielder for a long time now. They were seriously linked with Bayern star last summer too. However, due to complicated financial problems, it became impossible for the Catalan club to secure the deal.

It was claimed that last summer Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez convinced Kimmich to leave Bavarians and join Barcelona. But the club didn’t have enough Financial Fair Play (FFP) space for big money moves like this. Eventually, they went for the low-cost signing of Oriel Romeu from Girona for less than 4 million.

After the signing of Romeu backfired badly, Barcelona once again will be on the market for a star defensive midfielder next summer. As thing stands 28 year-old star is on the priority list of Barcelona to strengthen their midfield position.

Another club that is interested in the signature of the former RB Leipzig star is reported to be English Premier League Champion Manchester City. That means Barcelona should compete with Citizens to secure the deal which will see the Bayern star’s move to Spain in the coming summer.

Kimmich could be leaving Bayern after 9 seasons next summer as his contract expires in 2025 and is not keen to extend his deal as things stand. As reported by multiple sources, he is not happy with current manager Thomas Tuchel.
