The Catalan giant is expected to bring in a pivot come the winter transfer window to provide Xavi with options as Oriol Romeu struggles to nail down a spot in the starting XI.
The need for a pivot accompanied by a replacement for Gavi means Barcelona would need to be more active if it is to improve on its current squad.
Guido Rodriguez, Thiago Alcantara, and Dani Parejo are the names being monitored by the club ahead of the winter transfer window for the pivot position. With the three contracts set to expire before the summer, a deal in January would benefit Barcelona as it will come at a low cost. Guido Rodriguez remains the favorite as he is seen by those in Barcelona as the ideal pivot. While a deal for Guido last summer seemed far-fetched an agreement in January is believed to be reachable. Guido Rodriguez, who remains adamant about signing a new deal at Real Betis could force the Andalusian side to a cheap sale in January with Barcelona keen on his services.
Barcelona has also begun to shortlist names such as Lo Celso, Fabian Ruiz, and Carlos Soler as possible replacements for the injured Pablo Gavi. All three who have found minutes hard to come by at their various clubs would like to reignite their careers as a possible loan move to Barcelona begins to intensify. Xavi who remains an admirer of Lo Celso will be in favor of any deal for the Argentine midfielder, as the Barcelona manager seeks reinforcements in the middle of the park. Lo Celso finds himself out of the plans at Spurs having only played 28 minutes and so would welcome a move to the Catalan giant.
