FC Barcelona has encountered a variety of financial difficulties in recent times. The club is facing challenges despite its significant revenue generation, stemming from prior mismanagement of resources.
This has resulted in several constraints. Reckless player acquisitions have contributed to some problems, while other complications have also surfaced.
A notable instance concerns Brazilian midfielder Matheus Fernandes, who filed a lawsuit against the club in 2021 for “unfair termination,” seeking €14.8 million in damages.
However, the result has not been in Fernandes’ favor. Per Mundo Deportivo, the Supreme Court of Justice of Catalonia has dismissed his final appeal and reduced the compensation to €731,000, a substantial decrease from his original claim.
The ruling made in September 2023 has been upheld despite continued efforts by the player’s legal representatives to challenge it. Barcelona is now required to remit the reduced sum to their former player.
