Barcelona make final list for Ter Stegen replacement in 2025

Barcelona have made a five-man shortlist for huge goalkeeper signing in 2025.

Barcelona is reportedly preparing to seek a new goalkeeper in the upcoming summer, as Wojciech Szczesny’s short-term contract is due to end.

While Marc-André ter Stegen is anticipated to make a comeback in the initial phase of the 2025-26 season, his performance post a major injury is unclear.

Inaki Pena’s diminishing status within the squad has prompted the club to search for a new recruit. As per information from MD, five prospective candidates are currently under consideration, with Diogo Costa, the primary goalkeeper for FC Porto and the Portuguese national team, standing out as the top choice.

Other contenders consist of Bart Verbruggen from Brighton & Hove Albion, along with local choices such as Joan Garcia from Espanyol and Alvaro Valles from Las Palmas. Valles, who will be a free agent next summer, appears inclined to rejoin Real Betis.

Furthermore, Mio Backhaus, who has had previous associations with the club, is being considered as a potential long-term replacement for ter Stegen.

The level of Barcelona’s interest in these players will be monitored in the coming nine months.
