One of the promising Barcelona academy graduates is expected to return to action shortly after suffering a knee injury last month.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who was one of the surprises of the season under Hansi Flick, has reached the final stages of his recovery by advancing to light on-pitch training.
Prior to the disappointment, the La Masia youngster had cemented himself as an integral first-team regular with 36 appearances across competitions and a goal and six assists to his name.
His high-intensity displays in midfield had earned him a place in the first-team starting lineup under Flick, displaying his tactical acumen and technical quality.
A partial tear to the lateral collateral ligament in mid-March ended his season, however.
According to journalist Santi Ovale, Marc Casado is finally poised to make an on-schedule comeback, with May as the projected return date for the young player.
Casado has allegedly begun light training on the grass after weeks of bed rest, a big step towards recovery.
Even if Barcelona’s medical staff continues to be careful, not taking any risks, Casado is battling to be available for the last two La Liga matches against Athletic Club and Villarreal.
Even a long-shot outside possibility exists for him to appear in the Champions League final on May 31—provided Barcelona beat their semifinal obstacle, although that’s an optimistic one.
His original injury was considered to keep him out for the rest of the season, but his quick recovery has brought the hope of coming back earlier than anticipated.
The club’s conservative approach means his comeback will be monitored eagerly, with no rush to integrate him back into competitive action.
That being said, Casado’s determination and recent improvement in training mean he might still have a role to play in Barcelona’s season finale.
For the moment, supporters will be holding their breath for the next update, hoping the young midfielder can complete his incredible comeback in time for a winning return.
