João Félix may no longer be able to wear a Barcelona jersey, but it seems his heart remains with Barcelona.

The Portuguese striker, loaned out last season at Barcelona after being recalled by Atlético Madrid, was brought to tears after his old club knocked Atlético out from the Copa del Rey.

Barcelona overcame their hosts to take a tightly contested 1-0 second-leg win over Atlético in Wednesday night’s second semi-final, Ferran Torres netting the decisive goal.

The win took Hansi Flick’s side into the final and kept the hopes of a historic treble still alive.

After the match, Félix did not think twice about showing his solidarity with his old club.

He discreetly showed his thanks and appreciation by liking Iñigo Martínez’s Instagram post, in which the defender was over the moon for making the final.

This was a modest gesture and one that was not lost, especially considering the reality that Félix did not have a good working relationship with Atlético before he finally left the club last summer.

Félix’s Barcelona experience was stop-start—flashes of brilliance but inconsistency.

But his recent social media posts indicate that he still has an enormous affection for the club, even if his destination is elsewhere.

Barcelona, however, just keeps on going, demonstrating they can win with attacking brilliance and hard-headed defensive performances when the situation calls for it.

With the final of the Copa del Rey approaching and a La Liga title race still alive, Barcelona fans are going to be counting on their team to catch the wave—and it looks like João Félix will be watching from the bench.
