Barcelona’s ongoing efforts to reinforce their defensive lineup have led them to identify Rayo Vallecano’s right-back, Andrei Ratiu, as a primary target for the upcoming transfer window.

The 26-year-old Romanian international has delivered standout performances this season, making him an attractive prospect for several top European clubs.

Rayo Vallecano’s sporting director, David Cobeno, has acknowledged the heightened interest in Andrei Ratiu, stating that the club is content with his contributions but would consider offers that meet his release clause.

The buy-out fee is set at €25 million (£21 million), slightly above Barcelona’s reported offer of €20 million (£16.7 million).

Despite this, Ratiu’s consistent performances position him as a valuable asset at that price point.

In addition to Barcelona’s interest, Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester City have also entered the fray, signalling a highly competitive race for Ratiu’s signature, as reported by Sport Bild.

Liverpool’s pursuit is driven by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s potential departure to Real Madrid, while Manchester City seeks a replacement for Kyle Walker, who transferred to AC Milan in January.

Since joining Rayo Vallecano from Huesca in the summer of 2023, Ratiu has made 44 appearances, contributing two goals and three assists.

His performances have not only bolstered Rayo’s defense but have also caught the attention of other European clubs, including Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Bayer Leverkusen’s interest is particularly notable as they seek a replacement for Jeremie Frimpong, who is expected to leave the club.

As the summer transfer window approaches, the competition for Ratiu’s services is expected to intensify.

Barcelona’s strategy involves leveraging their existing relationship with Rayo Vallecano and the player’s positive rapport with several members of their squad.

However, the financial dynamics, including Rayo’s stance on the release clause and the interest from other clubs, suggest that securing Ratiu will be a complex endeavor.

Barcelona’s pursuit of Ratiu underscores their commitment to strengthening their defense in the upcoming season.

The outcome of this transfer saga will depend on various factors, including financial negotiations, player preferences, and the strategies employed by competing clubs.

As developments unfold, both fans and analysts will closely monitor the situation, given its potential impact on the competitive landscape of European football.
