Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has been reportedly suggesting the club sign Bayern Munich winger.
The 28-year-old is the type of dynamic attacking midfielder that Barça have sorely lacked.
His experience in the top tier would be an immediate upgrade to the team.
The player is Kingsley Coman, according to Fichajes.
Flick had shared the pitch with Coman at Bayern when the latter was one of his main players in his Champions League title-winning squad at Bayern in 2020.
Coman’s pace, ball control, and goal threat will add a new element to Barcelona’s attack, which has lacked a natural wide man for the past two seasons.
Barcelona have been keen on Coman—the club had him scouted last summer, but financial needs saw a transfer not happen.
Under Flick, though, the transfer might now be a real possibility.
But Bayern Munich is eager to keep him and won’t be selling him cheap, so Barcelona would have to make a big financial investment.
The largest hurdle still to overcome is Barcelona’s restricted budget.
Though Flick would love to re-sign Coman, the club first needs to work through their financial fair play obligations before it can sign a marquee player.
If they become resourceful in negotiating a deal, Coman can be the difference maker for their attack.
With that being said, though, with Bayern already planning on demanding an astronomical sum, it won’t be simple.
For now, at least, though, the transfer is still on the table, but a quality deal will hinge on whether Barcelona can make it happen.
