Barcelona has decided to sign a new right-back as their second top signing this summer, following the signing of a quality left-winger.

The team believes they need a quality backup for Jules Koundé, who has been playing in the position.

With Balde doing a good job at left-back and youngster Gerard Martín as his backup, the focus is now on the right side of the defense.

According to Diario Sport, Barcelona’s Football Director, Deco has reduced the candidates for the right-back position to four top contenders:

1. Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen) :

He is the number one priority, but at a €40 million release fee, he is expensive. Barcelona holds him in high regard but can only sign him if they sell big.

2. Vanderson (AS Monaco) :

The 23-year-old Brazilian is well-liked for his youth, experience, and playing style, which are well-suited to Barcelona’s system.

3. Marc Pubill (Almeria) :

He was close to joining last summer, but the transfer was off on financial grounds.

If Almeria gets promoted, his price will be higher, but he is an affordable option nonetheless.

4. Givairo Read (Feyenoord) :

A new face on the list, suggested to the club.

His price is not known, but his quality and age profile make him an ideal candidate.

Of particular note is that Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Ratiu, with a €25 million release clause as previously spoken about, is not a priority.

Manager Hansi Flick is said to be less interested in him, so he could be an option.

Barcelona’s budget will be taken into account in the signings they do, but getting the right-back position is now a priority.
