Barcelona’s star forward has been Barcelona’s most consistent player this season, playing in 37 of their 38 games.
The one exception was when he was given a disciplinary benching six months ago in a game against Osasuna—not because of fitness issues.
With more than 3,200 minutes played (80% of overall game time), Barça has continued Pep Guardiola’s adage with Messi: the more he plays, the more focused he becomes.
The player is Lamine Yamal, according to Diario Sport
But after a grueling 120-minute effort by Spain against the Netherlands and no break in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Osasuna, eyebrows are raised over his workload.
Hansi Flick has a challenge: Wheather to give Lamine a break against Girona to avoid burnout or win the match again and move closer to the La Liga title.
Flick’s strategy has been game by game. With a narrow margin ahead of Real Madrid and El Clásico on the horizon, every point counts.
He won’t give the impression that any game is not as crucial.
But Lamine’s lack of experience and the fact that he can recover quickly might enable Flick to handle his minutes differently—playing him and then taking him out if Barça gets a commanding lead.
