Even though Robert Lewandowski is set to sign a new contract at Barcelona until 2026, the club are seemingly interested in signing his long-term replacement sooner rather than later.
Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez have all been linked but the prices the Premier League sides are asking look set to be out of Barca’s budget.
Another option for the club is signing free agents and with the upcoming summer being one of the best free agent markets in recent memory, it could be a great opportunity to strengthen Hansi Flick’s squad.
Lille’s Jonathan David linked with Barcelona move
Mundo Deportivo have reported that Lille’s Jonathan David is ‘under surveillance’ by Barcelona for next summer.
The 25-year-old is set to leave the French side for free in July and many top clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United and Juventus are all monitoring him.
David, who is a Canadian international, has also publicly admitted his desire to play for the Bluagrana, claiming that he supported the club as a child and always dreamed of playing for Barca.
At 25-years-old and having plenty of experience, signing David would be a smart move and he could slot into Flick’s team straight away.
If Deco does decide to join the race for the striker then he will face plenty of competition. Hopefully the Brazilian can use the Canadian’s love of Barcelona and the club’s current project to convince him.
