Barcelona looks like a refined team with new players despite still being the same players. Many have regained their confidence, and some have impressed the club this season since the appointment of Hansi Flick.

Raphinha is one such case, as the Brazilian winger appears to be a new signing for the Catalan club after almost being sold to Saudi Arabian clubs with the club’s keen interest in bringing in Nico Willams, who had an excellent EURO competition.

Another impressive player this season is 33-year-old veteran defender Inigo Martinez, and his performance and mastery of the head coach’s defensive strategy have earned him a contract extension until June 2026.

Frenkie de Jong is also returning to his old self this season after appearing to have lost his place to Barcelona’s famed La Masia prodigy Marc Bernal and Casado after sitting out with a prolonged injury.

Although contract talks with the Dutch midfielder have stalled recently, the club are expected to open talks again after his impressive performances.

Barcelona Prepares to Extend De Jong Contract

After overcoming his injury issues and regaining form, Frenkie de Jong is allegedly willing to prolong his contract with Barcelona.

Last year, the Dutchman struggled and missed a substantial amount of time due to a significant ankle injury. He returned to action in October, but it wasn’t until this year that he could muscle his way back into the starting lineup and seem like his old self.

According to Cadena SER, De Jong is now enjoying life in Barcelona and is eager to prolong his contract. The player’s camp says, “The Frenkie of old is back.” They are likewise pleased to see the midfielder looking much more like his old self.

De Jong’s current contract expires in 2026. However, it has been stated that Barcelona are willing to offer him a new three-year contract while keeping him on his current pay.

The Dutch midfielder has also earned his first international call-up since an injury crisis in early 2024.
