The renewal binge at FC Barcelona continues, as veteran defender Inigo Martinez has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay until 2026.

The Spaniard joins other key players who have been offered more extended contracts as a statement of belief from the club sporting department led by Deco.

Inigo Martinez has impressed at Barcelona this season under the management of former Germany head coach Hansi Flick after it appeared that the defender was about to exit the club in the summer of 2024.

Barcelona Renews Inigo Martinez Contract

An agreement on an extension had been reached as early as January. However, the announcement was delayed owing to Fair Play margin problems.

However, the Blaugrana finally made the new contract official after La Liga approved it earlier today, following the transfer of Vitor Roque.

The club statement read: “FC Barcelona has exercised the option to extend the contract of first-team player Inigo Martinez, who will remain linked to the Club until June 30, 2026. The agreement between both parties had been closed for months but was pending his registration in the Professional Football League (LFP). FC Barcelona wants to publicly express its satisfaction after securing the continuity of the Basque defender for another season.”

Barcelona has also successfully registered all its players with La Liga for their contracts, avoiding potential deregistration issues that affected the team in previous summers.

The 33-year-old defender will be looking to end the season with essential trophies in his cabinet following a spectacular season and the partnership he formed with Pau Cubarsi.
