FC Barcelona’s pursuit of the UEFA Champions League title continues as they defeated SL Benfica 3-1 in their most recent match.

The Catalans won the first leg 1-0 and went on to win the tie 4-1 on aggregate, with Brazilian winger Raphinha scoring three of the goals.

With those strikes, he has 11 UCL goals this season. He leads the competition in scoring, ahead of Serhou Guirassy of Borussia Dortmund.

Furthermore, as Mundo Deportivo points out, these strikes put the Brazilian striker on track to break a Barcelona record, scoring the most goals for his side in a UCL campaign.

Lionel Messi holds the record, scoring 14 goals in the UCL during the 2011-12 season under Pep Guardiola. No other Blaugrana player has been able to match this total.

In general, only three players have scored more goals than the Argentine superstar in a single UCL season. Cristiano Ronaldo did it thrice, scoring 17 goals in 2013-14, 16 in 2015-16, and 15 in 2017-18 while wearing the Real Madrid shirt.
