Barcelona players were looking to have an excellent match against Osasuna after their shock defeat away from home last year. However, shocking news broke out, and the game was postponed until further notice. The club’s head doctor was announced dead by the club.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick hopes to honor Carles Miñarro’s legacy during their Champions League match against Benfica on Tuesday following the sudden death of the team’s doctor over the weekend.

Barcelona Plans to Honor Miñarro

Miñarro, 53, died on Saturday, shortly before Barça’s La Liga game against Osasuna at the Olympic Stadium, which was postponed.

Barcelona will play their first game since his death on Tuesday, hosting Benfica in the second leg of their round-of-16 series after leading 1-0 in the first.

Barcelona’s head coach said: “It’s a huge loss. Carles was a great person and a great doctor. The combination of him and [doctor] Ricard [Pruna] was unbelievable for the club and a big part of the team’s success. We will miss him. He will support us from above. We want to play for him. It’s now essential that we win in this situation. That’s the focus we want.”

Miñarro joined Barça in 2017 and worked mainly with the futsal team until joining the first team last summer when Flick was appointed coach.

Club president Joan Laporta stated that his death had left the club “in a state of shock,” with some players working particularly closely with him.

Dani Olmo had known Miñarro as his doctor since 2016 and had previously worked with his father, Miguel.
