Last night, Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez once again impressed in the Champions League, this time scoring a screamer against Real Madrid.

Despite his side losing the first leg, the 25-year-old came out of the game receiving plaudits from many people for his performance.

Since joining Atleti last summer, the Argentine has impressed, adapting to life in the Spanish capital fairly quickly.

Barcelona’s interest in Julian Alvarez

Due to his current form, he has subsequently been linked with a move away from Simeone’s side, even though he has only just joined.

Barcelona have recently been linked with the Atletico Madrid forward, however, a new report has stated that the Catalonian side could have signed him a few seasons ago.

Mundo Deportivo, via Managing Barca, have claimed that the former Manchester City star almost signed for the Blaugrana in 2022.

However, Barcelona decided to sign Ferran Torres from the Premier League side for a reported fee of €65million.

In hindsight, Torres’ signing has not been as positive as the club would have hoped and Alvarez would definitely fit the club’s current needs.

Who knows, maybe Barca can negotiate a deal with Atleti but as we know, they drive a hard bargain and will not sell him for less than their valuation.
