Today, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona dispatched Real Sociedad 4-0 in what turned out to be a very comfortable game due to an early red card.

This result meant that Barca are now top of La Liga by one point, with Atletico Madrid in second and Real Madrid three points behind the Blaugrana in third.

There is still a long way to go and as we know from previous seasons anything can happen but so far, things are going really well.

Hansi Flick sends his team Benfica warning

Despite becoming clear leaders at the top of the La Liga standings, the German coach is not letting his players rest on their laurels.

“I’m happy to be league leader, but we have to think about the match against Benfica,” Flick said in his post-match conference, cited by Managing Barca.

“Benfica have had a week to rest and prepare their match against us, so we have to be very careful.”

Barcelona have already played Benfica in the UCL and only won it thanks to a last-minute goal from Raphinha where the game finished 5-4.

Flick will know that his side’s weakness is conceding too many goals and he will want to avoid this in the knockout stages.

Hopefully, today’s result will give the players confidence, especially when you consider the amount of players who were rotated and rested.
