Last night, Barcelona navigated a tough fixture against Rayo Vallecano where they won 1-0 to go top of the La Liga standings on goal difference.

Despite the three points, Vallecano put up a very spirited effort and made Barca dig deep to get a result.

Even though Hansi Flick’s side won, the game was not without controversies, as Los Franjirrojos could have easily had a penalty and they also had a goal disallowed which could be considered harsh.

Jules Kounde dropped by Hansi Flick

Another talking point happened before the game even kicked off as Jules Kounde, who has become crucial to Flick’s side, was dropped to the bench and replaced with Hector Fort.

After the game in his press conference, cited by Managing Barca, the German coach was asked why the Frenchman did not start and if the rumours about his being late were the reason.

“Koundé’s being late? He was late that’s why he didn’t start today. It’s a matchday. Before the match, I have 2 or 3 meetings… It’s not too difficult to be on time. Koundé was late, it’s a clear rule and it can’t happen!”

Flick has already dropped Inaki Pena this season due to lateness so it should not come as a shock for the Blaugrana players that they will be punished for their tardiness.

Hopefully, Kounde can prove to the Barca manager that this was just a one-off and it will not happen again as the 26-year-old has become a vital part of not just the team’s defensive soundness but also the impressive attacking build-up play.
