A few days ago, Barcelona announced that Ronald Araújo had extended his stay at the Camp Nou, signing a new deal until 2031.

The Uruguayan was being heavily courted by Juventus, who had a bid rejected by Barca and were expected to return.

At the time, it was reported that Araújo and his side were pushing for the move, as he did not see himself getting the minutes he needed under Hansi Flick.

Thankfully, Deco met with the 25-year-old’s team and managed to agree a new deal, something which looked near impossible.

Now, Relevo have revealed all the details around Araújo’s new deal and some of the stipulations have come as a massive shock.

The report reads that his old deal, which was set to expire in 2026, had a €1billion release clause, however, his new clause would allow him to leave in the summer of 2025 for €65million.

After this upcoming transfer window, his release clause would increase to €80million, a surprising amount considering Barca were asking for €75million this month before he agreed to a new deal.

Finally, Relevo claim that along with these amended clauses, Araújo will be getting a salary increase.

This new deal is a move that Deco wanted to make to postpone his departure and maximise any transfer fee the Blaugrana might receive in the future, even though it is reportedly below what Barca wanted this month.
