Hansi Flick has been fairly consistent when it comes to picking his centre-back pairing this season, typically selecting Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez.

However, this has put Ronald Araújo’s future at Barcelona in doubt as he is likely to play backup to the Spanish duo.

Due to this, it has put some of Europe’s elite clubs on high alert, including Juventus who are trying to convenience the Uruguayan to join this January.

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Premier League side Arsenal are set to join the race for his signature, with their coach, Mikel Arteta, being a big fan of the 25-year-old.

The report states that the Gunners are willing to bid strongly for the centre-back and are ready to make a move in January if Araújo wants to leave now.

It is claimed that the defender just wants guaranteed minutes and if that means departing Barcelona then he is prepared to do it.

Finally, the article reports that Barça still want to extend his contract but if Araújo wants to leave they will consider selling him as his contract expires in 2026.

Barring any injuries it does seem like the Uruguayan will be Flick’s third-choice centre-back this season, however, if he joins Arsenal he would also be their third-choice option behind William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães.

Juventus seems like it would be the best option for the 25-year-old as they are currently facing an injury crisis in defence.

Regardless of which clubs are interested in Rivera native, Barcelona will be set for a large payday if they decide to sell him this January.
