Xavi stopped Lamine Yamal from leaving Barcelona for PSG

Xavi Hernandez STOPPED Lamine Yamal from joining PSG by making him a KEY promise.

Xavi Hernandez’s coaching stint at Barcelona may have concluded on a difficult note, but he achieved notable successes during his almost three-year term.

Aside from notable Clasico victories, a Super Cup championship, and a defensively solid league title, Xavi’s most significant influence could be seen in his efforts to retain Lamine Yamal at Barcelona.

According to Mundo Deportivo, PSG had shown keen interest in Yamal, going as far as to offer €250 million for him in the summer of 2024.

However, President Joan Laporta adamantly turned down the bid. Initially, PSG contacted Yamal in 2022/23, when the talented 16-year-old was close to the end of his contract and could leave for free.

Recognizing the possibility of losing him, Xavi spoke with Yamal and guaranteed him a chance to play with the senior team if he remained loyal.

In April 2023, Xavi kept his promise and brought Yamal on in the latter stages of a 4-0 victory against Real Betis. This move made Yamal the youngest player to ever debut for Barcelona.
