Why Barcelona did not sign Felix and Cancelo — REVEALED

The reasons why Barcelona decided to NOT sign have Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo have been revealed.

Barcelona had anticipated reacquiring Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix on loan during the summer transfer period, however, both arrangements ended up being out of reach.

Because of continuous financial restrictions, Barcelona was only able to secure one notable acquisition following the sale of players to release funds and wage room.

The club planned to chase after Cancelo and Felix with comparable loan arrangements, but in the end no bids were submitted.

Cancelo ultimately relocated to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, while Felix made the switch to Chelsea, both in permanent deals—posing a problem for Barcelona’s strategies.

Marca states that Manchester City, who has lost interest in Cancelo since late 2022, was willing to only accept a loan agreement if it contained a requirement to buy next summer.

The fixed cost for this would have amounted to €20 million, which was above Barcelona’s financial constraints.

In relation to Felix, despite head coach Hansi Flick seeming receptive to the notion, Atletico Madrid only wanted a permanent deal. As a result, Barcelona had to advise Felix that they were unable to accommodate the transfer.
