Marc Bernal, the 17-year-old player who excelled as Flick’s preferred defensive midfielder, is currently out of action because of a serious ACL and meniscus injury.
This setback probably indicates the end of his season, and he will now shift his focus towards making a comeback for the next season.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Hansi Flick has already identified two dependable options to take over Bernal’s position.
One potential candidate for Flick’s consideration is Marc Casado, a former Barcelona Atletic captain and mentor to Bernal. He might be the prime choice for the position.
Another alternative is Frenkie De Jong, who is currently sidelined with an injury but is expected to recover in time for the upcoming game against Girona.
Despite his current situation, Flick has great faith in De Jong and expects him to be a key player as the team faces these difficult times.
Casado and De Jong are both likely to get a lot of playing time this season with Flick in charge.
