Barcelona were left disappointed after falling 2-1 to Real Madrid at the Camp Nou, losing a crucial El Clásico on home soil.
Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring in the 41st minute after a poor clearance by Gerard Martín deflected into the net.
Barcelona dominated possession and created more chances but struggled to convert, with Lamine Yamal missing a clear opportunity.
Raphinha equalized in the 61st minute from a Pedri assist following a short corner.
Madrid stayed compact and clinical on the counter, eventually securing the winner late on to claim a hard-fought away victory and keep the title race alive.
Here are the 5 things we learned:
1. We missed too many chances
We created the better openings, had more shots, and controlled large stretches of the match, yet we only scored once.
When you dominate possession and get into good areas as often as we did, you have to be clinical.
Leaving those clear opportunities unconverted is what turns a statement win into a frustrating one.
2. Counter-attack defending remains a weak spot
The high line works when everything is synchronized, but the moment the ball turns over, we get stretched and exposed.
One poorly dealt-with cross and a scramble in the box was enough for them to score. We keep inviting these transitional moments and eventually get punished.
3. We are losing the ball too cheaply in dangerous areas
Too many loose touches and rushed passes in midfield or our own half handed them easy transitions.
Against a side that thrives on turnovers, every unnecessary loss of possession becomes a gift and puts us under pressure.
4. Possession doesn’t automatically equal control
We had the majority of the ball and territory for long periods, but the tempo kept getting broken, and we struggled to turn that dominance into sustained pressure in the final third.
We need to be more purposeful and decisive when we have it.
5. Set-piece and second-phase situations need work at both ends
We scored from one, which is positive, but we also looked vulnerable on the other side and in the chaos that follows clearances.
Those moments decide tight games like this one and currently feel like a soft area.
