Real Sociedad have secured a deal for a Barcelona defender after reaching an €8 million agreement with the Catalan club.

The closing days of the summer transfer window continue to force definitive roster reshaping within FC Barcelona, as sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick focus on trimming peripheral squad options.

With several young academy graduates lacking clear regular playing minutes in the first-team dynamic, the Catalan board has prioritized permanent exits that offer both immediate cash flow and future upside retention.

Having spent weeks assessing options across Europe, negotiating channels have accelerated dramatically to finalize a high-profile domestic transfer before the market closes.

The exit-bound full-back at the absolute center of this transfer breakthrough is 20-year-old La Masia product Hector Fort, according to Fabrizio Romano.

While Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund had initially emerged as leading contenders to sign the young defender, Real Sociedad launched a decisive late push following meetings with Barcelona’s administrative board.

The Basque club successfully negotiated a structured transfer package worth approximately €8 million, while Barcelona will also retain 50% of the player’s future sell-on rights.

The agreement serves all parties involved as deadline day approaches.

For Real Sociedad, securing Fort provides them with a high-ceiling full-back capable of featuring on either flank, bolstering their domestic depth under Imanol Alguacil.

For Barcelona, receiving an immediate €8 million transfer fee while reserving half of his future financial rights allows the club to maintain economic leverage while generating crucial margin within La Liga’s financial fair play framework.

With discussions advancing smoothly between the clubs and terms largely mapped out, Fort is now expected to travel to San Sebastián to complete medical tests and formalize his contract.

The transaction marks another strategic departure for Barcelona as they lock in their final squad configuration for the long season ahead.
