Braga have officially signed a €12 million Barcelona midfielder, boosting their midfield options for the new campaign.

The summer transfer window continues to prove highly active across Europe, and FC Barcelona have officially finalized another key outgoing operation to streamline their squad while generating valuable capital.

Under manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco, the Catalan giants are carefully managing player exits, balancing senior squad construction with strategic sales of promising academy products who face limited pathways to first-team football at Spotify Camp Nou.

However, with fierce competition in central midfield following the arrival of high-profile signings like Rodri, the teenager recognized that opportunities would remain scarce and opted for a fresh start abroad.

The 19-year-old La Masia graduate embarking on this new adventure with SC Braga is Tommy Marqués.

According to the official Barcelona statement, the Portuguese club completed the transfer for a fixed fee of €11 million, with additional add-ons bringing the total package close to €12 million.

Having joined Barcelona’s youth setup at nine years old, Marqués rose steadily through the academy ranks to make his senior La Liga debut under Hansi Flick last season.

Braga won the race for Marqués after making a strong push, successfully warding off late interest from Dutch giants Ajax.

As part of Deco’s modern recruitment strategy for departing academy talents, Barcelona have reserved a buy-back option as well as a sell-on percentage of any future transfer fee, ensuring the Catalan club maintains long-term financial control over his development.

At Braga, Marqués will reunite with former Barcelona forward Pau Víctor and work under head coach Carlos Vicens, who is known for nurturing young technical players.

The departure provides Barcelona with an immediate financial boost while allowing one of La Masia’s dedicated talents to secure consistent top-flight playing time in the Liga Portugal and European competitions.
