Barcelona have only just reached the final stages of their preparations for the new campaign, but Nike could already be looking further ahead.

The Catalan giants are expected to continue drawing heavily from their history when it comes to their future kit designs.

Barcelona’s famous Blaugrana colours have appeared in countless different forms over the years, with the club regularly finding new ways to reinterpret the traditional look.

Their next home shirt could take that approach even further by bringing one of the most historic symbols in the club’s history back into the spotlight.

Barcelona could be set for a major throwback in 2027/28, with Nike reportedly considering a representation of the club’s original 1899 crest for the home shirt.

According to Footy Headlines, Nike are working on a historically inspired concept that could feature elements of Barça’s first-ever emblem.

The design is considered highly likely at this stage, although the final shirt has not yet been confirmed.

The potential crest dates back to Barcelona’s foundation and was used between 1899 and 1910.

Unlike the modern badge, the original emblem was based on the coat of arms of the city of Barcelona. It featured the Cross of Saint George and the Catalan flag, alongside a crown and bat, with laurel and palm branches surrounding the design.

If the concept eventually becomes official, it would reportedly mark the first time Barcelona have included a representation of their original crest on a match kit.

That could make the shirt particularly appealing to supporters and collectors, especially given the historical significance attached to the emblem.

Nike are also reportedly planning a darker interpretation of Barcelona’s traditional colours.

The familiar Blaugrana stripes would remain, but the blue could take on a deeper tone while the garnet shade is expected to become more intense.

The combination would give the shirt a more understated and classic appearance while still retaining the identity that has defined Barcelona’s home kits for generations.

For now, the 2027/28 design remains unconfirmed, but the reported plans suggest Barcelona could be preparing one of their most nostalgic shirts in years.
