Barcelona are evaluating a €60 million Tottenham Hotspur defender after the player was formally offered to the Catalan club.
In a surprising turn of events, representatives managing prominent Premier League talent have actively sounded out elite continental clubs to resolve unsettled squad situations in North London.
The 20-year-old talent, who famously came within inches of joining Barcelona two years ago while at Djurgardens, is eager to secure a departure from Tottenham Hotspur after seeing his role in England become complicated following heavy midfield reinforcement.
Deco and head coach Hansi Flick have unequivocally rejected the proposal, viewing the chapter as entirely closed.
The player in question, whose name has resurfaced at Spotify Camp Nou, is Swedish star Lucas Bergvall.
According to reports relayed by Diario Sport, Bergvall’s representatives reached out to Deco and Barcelona’s hierarchy to test whether the Blaugrana would be interested in reopening the door for a transfer valued at around £60 million.
However, Barcelona’s stance on the matter has been swift and firm.
Back in 2024, Barcelona had reached an agreement with Djurgardens for roughly €7 million plus add-ons, only for Tottenham Hotspur to swoop in with a vastly superior financial offer that lured the player to London.
Barcelona refused to engage in a bidding war at the time and have no intention of revisiting the deal now at a dramatically inflated valuation.
Instead, Barcelona’s recruitment team is channelling its focus and remaining financial resources into different tactical profiles to elevate their squad quality.
With higher-priority operations on the table, the Catalan club considers their operational plans well established without looking back at past targets.
As a result, Bergvall’s camp must turn their attention toward other European suitors as they continue exploring routes out of North London before the transfer deadline passes.
