Barcelona’s attention has already turned to the future of one of Hansi Flick’s established forwards.
The Catalan club continue to juggle new arrivals with long-term contract decisions as they look to keep the squad competitive in the years ahead.
Several key players remain locked in negotiations over their futures, while interest from rival clubs continues to grow.
One of those situations has now taken another intriguing twist.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly preparing a move for Ferran Torres once his Barcelona contract expires, with discussions already said to have taken place with the player’s representatives.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico sporting director Mateu Alemany has begun talks over a long-term proposal that would see the Spain international complete the final year of his current contract at Barcelona before joining Diego Simeone’s side as a free agent.
Rather than attempting to negotiate a transfer this summer, Atletico are reportedly prepared to wait until the end of the winger’s existing deal.
Under the proposed plan, Ferran Torres would spend the 2026/27 campaign at Camp Nou before making the move to the Metropolitano, where he would receive a signing bonus instead of Barcelona collecting a transfer fee.
The report comes at a significant moment for the 25-year-old following Barcelona’s expected recent addition of Karim Adeyemi, a signing that will add further competition across the club’s attacking positions.
Despite the growing speculation, Barcelona remain determined to keep Torres.
Club officials are understood to be working towards a contract extension and are eager to reach an agreement before his current deal moves closer to expiry.
The report also claims the Blaugrana are prepared to pay Manchester City an additional €7-8 million as part of clauses linked to Torres’ original transfer if a new contract is finalised.
Interestingly, the same report adds that Barcelona insiders have indicated they are not aware of any official approaches from either Atletico Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain regarding the Spanish international.
For now, Torres remains a Barcelona player, but with Atletico reportedly willing to play the long game, his contract situation is shaping up to be one of the club’s biggest storylines over the coming months.
