Barcelona’s plans for the summer window are not only focused on bringing new faces into Hansi Flick’s squad, with the club also working behind the scenes to resolve several situations involving existing players.

The goalkeeper department has been one of the areas requiring attention, with Barça needing to find a solution that benefits both the squad structure and the players involved.

With several senior and young options competing for places, the Catalan giants have been looking to reduce the congestion between the posts.

The latest development concerns captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who is close to completing a temporary move away from Camp Nou, as per AS.

The German goalkeeper is nearing a one-year loan switch to Ajax, with new manager Michel believed to have played an important role in pushing the deal forward.

The Dutch side’s interest comes as Marc-Andre ter Stegen looks for regular playing time after a difficult period affected by injuries and competition for his position.

Ajax could provide the experienced shot-stopper with the opportunity to rebuild his rhythm, while also reuniting him with a coach familiar with his qualities from their time together at Girona.

Barcelona have been working towards creating a clearer order in goal, and Ter Stegen’s possible departure would help simplify the situation.

The club have already seen two other goalkeepers move on this summer, with Inaki Pena completing a permanent transfer to Panathinaikos for around €3 million, while Diego Kochen joined Lyngby on loan.

Barca’s new goalkeeping structure is now expected to revolve around Joan García as the first-choice option, with Wojciech Szczesny providing experience as the backup.

Youngsters Ander Astralaga and Aron Yaakobishvili are also expected to remain part of the wider setup as the club continues developing talent from within.

Ter Stegen’s situation has been complicated by his contract, salary and importance at Barcelona over the years, with the 33-year-old still tied down until 2028.

A loan move to Ajax would not represent a permanent ending to his Camp Nou career, but it would give both parties valuable breathing space.

For Barcelona, it would ease pressure around squad planning, while Ter Stegen would get the minutes needed to return to his best level.

The final details of the agreement are now being worked on as both clubs look to reach a solution ahead of the new season.
